Do I need to be a “Construction” person?
SUNLY franchise owners do not need construction experience, only good business skills and a passion for their communities
To own a SUNLY franchise, you might think that you need to have a construction background. Although we certainly attract the construction crowd, you don’t have to be. We have all the construction geekiness that you need to build a successful SUNLY franchise. Which means you get to focus on building a business. We are looking for franchise owners who are passionate about teaching; passionate about learning; passionate about growing….and who are engaged in their communities.
Your role in the business
To explain your role in the business you should probably ask yourself "what am I best at"? You probably strive to be your own boss so that you can have the freedom "do what you love." We want the same for you, so it's important you do what you're good at and hire for what you're not.
Be happy!
That being said, when you start out you will definitely have to make some sacrifices before you can spend 100% of your days only doing the things you love. No one likes paying bills or discplining staff or cleaning the bathrooms at your warehouse but your the boss and sometimes it's up to you to do those things.
Here a few things we would highly recommend you know about even if you're not primarily doing the job:
Understand step by step how to install the solar system
Always be mindful of your finances and cashflow
Ensure you are up to date with all the documentation your clients are signing
Get a good handle on all technology used
Keep your finger on the pulse of your clients
What background is important?
We attract teachers, business owners, high tech workers, bankers…virtually all types of backgrounds. What is important to us, is that our most successful franchise partners have these 4 traits:
Our franchisees come from a variety of backgrounds, but all have these characteristics:
High Business aptitude. This is a fast growth business and we need partners who can manage that kind of growth. Coming with a high biz aptitude and seasoned experience building businesses is a huge asset.
Competitive in nature. We are all competitive guys. It's in our DNA. We took on entrenched competitors in a small, highly localized market and were larger than them all within our first year of operations. We want partners who embody this same kind of drive and competitiveness
Able to lead a team. Installing solar panels can be hard work, and it isn't performed by just one person. We are looking for partners who can build and lead teams of 10+ employees.
Attention to detail. It's the little details that really count. Your clients are making a large investment and they expect things to go smoothly with no hiccups. Reviewing all contracts, keeping a handle on timelines and installing right the first time saves your time and reduces everyone's stress.
